This is the very first episode of Back In the Village: The Prisoner Podcast, covering all 17 episodes of the 1967, British, sci-fi classic The Prisoner! In this episode we say hello, meet our hosts, enter the village, and learn all about Number 6’s inherent racism.

Enjoy!

Ep. 2 – The Chimes of Big Ben

This time on Back In the Village: The Prisoner Podcast we cover The Chimes of Big Ben. We meet Leo Mckern’s Number 2, learn how much non-alcoholic vodka costs, and Wes gives us more proof that Number 6 is a dirty racist.

Enjoy!

Notes:

Here’s the full length version of Ron Grainer’s original theme for The Prisoner, before it was gussied up with lots of drums and thunder claps

Ep. 3 – A, B, and C

Welcome back again! This time on The Prisoner Podcast we cover A, B, and C, and learn all about dreamy parties, Number 2’s weird milk fetish, tongue twisters, and the horrors of house centipedes.

Enjoy!

Notes:

Be sure to check out The Unmutual, who were kind enough to give us a nice plug!

They’re also on Twitter and Facebook, and cover all things The Prisoner!

Ep. 4 – Free For All

Welcome back! This week Wes and I cover Free For All, Patrick McGoohan’s first foray into writing and directing on The Prisoner. We get into the ins and outs of public service in the Village, the return of the Rover Hands, and touch on a bit of McGoohan’s personal views toward lady co-stars, all backed by a sick beat from a ceramic lion. Enjoy!

Ep. 5 – The Schizoid Man

Thanks for coming back after a long, unintended two-week hiatus! Sorry for the wait! This week we learn about flapjacks, voodoo, ESP, and how this episode is like Total Recall. Enjoy!

Notes:

The Simpsons episode we reference is The Computer Wore Menace Shoes, from Season 12

And the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode we reference is The Schizoid Man, from Season 2.

Also, with all the Star Trek talk in this episode, we’d be remiss not to mention the passing of Leonard Nimoy this past week. He’ll be missed. LLAP!

Ep. 6 – The General

Welcome back! This week on The Prisoner Podcast we look at some military history: Generals, and that…sort…of thing, and continue to ponder 6’s aversion to women, and why the hell he even sticks his nose in this business in the first place as we cover The General

Notes:

If you’ve never seen it, here’s some links to learn more about Dark City, a very cool sci-fi flick from the 90’s:

Dark City IMDB Listing

Also, after doing a little digging, I found out that the writer of The General, Lewis Greifer, created the pseudonym “Joshua Adam” in honor of his two sons, whose upcoming school tests at the time inspired Greifer to come up with the story for The General. Very cool!

For some more info on Greifer, who also wrote some Doctor Who, check out his IMDB page.

Enjoy!
